The Coastal Bird Assistant supports Birds Canada’s science & conservation programs with a focus on endangered Piping Plover and threatened Bank Swallow on southeastern NB beaches. Primary responsibilities: 1) Conduct biological field work and protection of beach habitat for nesting Piping Plover and Bank Swallow; 2) Build awareness and appreciation of birdlife and nature on beaches through bilingual public outreach; 3) Assist with coordination and training of volunteers; 4) Data entry, management and analysis.
Working with an experienced team who mentor and support skill building, the candidate will:
a) Work collaboratively and independently to conduct regular beach surveys; b) Assist with saltmarsh bird surveys; c) Connect with beachgoers and coastal landowners to build understanding and awareness of coastal birdlife and foster beach stewardship; d) Assist with bilingual outreach activities (in person and digital platforms); e) Manage and enter data and assist with data analysis.
