The Bathurst and area community has seen a dramatic rise in homelessness in recent years. Estimates are that 150 -200 people currently live without a roof over their head. In addition, increasing rents and grocery prices has resulted in many low income people going without necessities to pay bills. To help address some of the needs in our neighbourhood, St. Lukes implemented a program to provide lunch meals on the week-ends when the local soup kitchen is closed, provide food on a daily basis through a "blessing box" on our church step, provide a clothing bank with free clothes, and provide toiletries and sanitary items (e.g. soap, shampoo, feminine supplies etc.). This job includes providing coordination of the food and clothing banks, ensuring someone is present to work with staff (paid and volunteer) when people in need come seeking help. The successful candidate will also be involved in other community based outreach as time allows.
